Description:
Nettle is a Urticaceae family plant more commonly known as Urtica Dioica or stinging nettle. This plant is native to Eurasia and has also been found growing in the wilderness on the North American continent. A stinging nettle is a perennial plant that grows in large patches and prefers rich, moist soil. Its leaves are serrated and heart-shaped with stems covered in prickly hairs that, if come into contact with, can cause painful stinging on the skin.
Functions:
The indicated root is in the symptomatic treatment of micturition disorders such as nocturia, pollakiuria, dysuria, and urine retention and in benign prostatic hyperplasia. It was a diuretic, aphrodisiac, lung tonic, and itch removal. In a clinical trial, men with benign prostatic hypertrophy (Stages I and II) were treated with a dried standardized Urtica root extract for 20 weeks. A morphologically relevant effect on the prostate adenoma cells may be due to competitive inhibition by the section of the binding capacity of SHBG (sex hormone-binding globulin). Other clinical trials have reported improvements in urinary flow and reduced urinary frequency, nocturia, and residual urine after six months of treatment.
